A New Year

A new year and a new term. Time to lift the game re Photoshop and this blog. Richard you have a lot to answer for.

I aim to complete the project on the photos of my Mother's life - 1916 - 2006.

First find where I'm up to, scan the extra photos, organise how and where photos are saved.

Aim to put a photo on blog each lesson.

Photoshop Revision

When saving a photoshop file, how do you save it to preserve features such as layers?
Save as .psd file, file, save for web,
Why do you need to save you file in this way? To prevent loss of quality and keep all the information
To save the file for the blog what;
width 250,
file format JPG
quality MIN. 60

Explain the following file formats, that is are they compressed, what type of image are they appropriate for, what program would open them.
.tif Not compressed, lossless image, suitable for printing
.psd Not compressed, keeps layers intact, used for master files
.jpg Compresses, lossy image, suitable for emails, gradient colour
.gif Lossless compression, suitable for animation, use with transparency, block colour
Give an example of a technique to improve composition of an image.
Use rule of thirds when taking photos, or crop to remove unwanted background.
What is colour depth? The amount of colour such as 8 bit colour ie 2 to the power of 8
How many colours does 3bit colour produce? 2 to the power of 3 ie 8
How do you copy your folder to CD? Click on folder, right click, send to CD

New and Improved Roie


We removed the red eye and whitened the lips by darkening the lips. Pity about the poor choice of lip colour.
